| Comment | This poem seems to consist of two parts with the same length of eight verses, each one in a typical juxtaposition and announced by the same type of word: (v1) 'Ἐνταῦθα τέρμα' and (v9) 'Ἐντεῦθεν ἄρξου'. Each part states a beginning, announces three parts of the content of the work and is concluded by a short spiritual commentary (vv8,15-16) . The second part has a circular composition with the repitition of the same words: (v9) 'ἄρξου σὺν Θεῷ' and (v15) 'μέλλομεν σὺν Θεῷ'. The same vocabulary repeats itself in each part of the poem and links the two halves: (vv5,14) 'καὶ ψυχωφελῶν πάνυ', (vv7,13) 'πανηγυρικῶν', (vv2, 9) 'Σωτῆρος', 'σωτῆρι'. All in all we can speak of a fine piece of Byzantine artistry. |
