Πέφυκε διδάσκουσα τοῖς φιλιστόροις,
ἃ συνέβησαν τοῖς Ἰουδαίοις πάλαι
κατά τε τὴν Αἴγυπτον καὶ Παλαιστίνην,
καὶ Σύριαν τε, βίβλος ἡ προκειμένη·
πεπόνθασιν ὅσα τε παρ᾽ Ἀσσυρίων,
Βαβυλωνίων, Πέρσων καὶ Μακεδόνων,
ὅσα μετὰ τούτους γε Ῥωμαίων πάρα.
Ἁπλῶς γὰρ οὑδὲν τῶν κατὰ τούτους πέλει,
ὃ καταλιπὼν συγκεκαλύφθαι χρόνῳ
ὁ θαυμάσιος Ἰώσηπος τυγχάνει.
