Palaeographical information | Each verse is introduced with a majuscule initial, forming an acrostic: 'δόξα τῷ Θεῷ ἀμήν.' Verse 3 starts with a ξ-initial, which conforms with the acrostic, but produces a faulty ξῆσαι instead of the expected ζῆσαι. Considering the similar ductus of the two letters, the scribe may have used them interchangeably in this occurrence. It is also probable that the initials for the acrostic had been inscribed prior to the rest of the verses. |
Contextual information | Concludes the Gospel of John, following an ornamental separating headpiece. |
